Second Making Period

Assignment# 11- Flyer designed by Jordi D.

To create this assignment I had to to use Photoshop and one of the text effects I learned before. I had to remake a flyer in my design so I used the glass text effect for the title and I wrote the information that was on the original flyer on to the new flyer. To make the background I used a gradient overlay on the background layer. Than to finish the flyer, I added four photos about STEM, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,by going online, and adding the desired photos into the flyer by opening them as a new file and using the same method that I used for postcard photos in assignment #4. Then I saved it as a JPEG and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #12- Texture with Layer by Jordi D.

To add a different a different texture to the suit photo of my choosing I first found the
photo that I wanted to use and went to http://www.tutorialboard.net/texture-layer-modes/ for further directions and opened Photoshop to add the texture to the suit. Once there I followed the directions and used the magnetic lasso to separate the jacket from the rest of the picture. Then I went to edit and pressed Copy Merged and I searched for a texture that I wanted to use on the suit. then I opened the texture and placed it over the suit and clipped the two layers together. By now the texture is now in the suit, so I changed the layer mode and change the opacity to complete the effect. Then I saved it as a PSD and JPEG and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com

Assignment #13-Change one Thing Poster by Jordi D.

To create this poster I had to use the same method I used in assignment #12, but instead with healthy and unhealthy food options. To get an idea of what I needed to do I saw other examples from http://www.foodbanknyc.org/our-programs/nutrition-and-health-education/cookshop-social-marketing. From seeing these examples, I was able to make similar poster by finding a healthy food option photo and a similar unhealthy food option photo. I also, used the same method I used for assignment #12 which was add a new texture to a suit. After I got these two photos I open both in Photoshop in separate files to proceed by using the lasso tool on the unhealthy food picture to get only the  container of the food, in this this case the box, and the food alone. Once I did this I copied the part that I lassoed to a new document and then I lassoed the unhealthy food and separated it from the rest of the picture and replaced it with pineapple rings as a substitution. Once I put the pineapple rings as food within the box, I had to write a witty phrase which explained why it should be substituted by using the text tool and then I had write the benefits of eating pineapples. Since this was a poster replication, I had to write the same information on that poster and the food bank logo, on  my poster. To finish my poster I had to write a disclaimer on the bottom of the poster, and then I added a gradient to the background. After saved it as a PSD and a JPG, I sent both to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #14- Halloween Project

To create this pumpkin I had to use a photo of a pumpkin and follow the instructions on http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/photo-effects-tutorials/design-a-halloween-pumpkin-wallpaper-in-photoshop/. I opened the picture of the pumpkin in Photoshop and used the lasso tool to remove the background of the image and to make the pumpkin more to the way I wanted it to be, after I added a black gradient to the background. Then I used the lasso tool to get the stem of the pumpkin in its own little area, then i pressed command, shift and the I keys to invert the selection. Afterward I pressed the command and U keys to adjust the hue and saturation, and I also did the same thing to the stem but with different numbers for each. Then I adjusted the darkness on the pumpkin by pressing the command and L keys and then, by using the brush tool I drew a face on my pumpkin. After this step I switched to http://www.adobetutorialz.com/articles/3011/1/Happy-Halloween-Ideas to finish this project, but not before opening a new layer to fill the gaps left over from my drawing and then adding the appropriate options in layer effects. Using the text tool, I wrote "Jordi's Jack O'lantern 2013" with Curlz MT Regular. Then to finish this project I had to used the brush tool, with a 10% opacity and the color white, to add "light" and an orange "glow" from the pumpkin. Then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #15A and 15B- "Creating" a painted look with Displacement

15A:

To complete this assignment I had to go to http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-a-painted-effect-look-with-displacement-maps-in-photoshop-cs4/ for a list of steps. For the first picture, I had to use a picture of a brick wall and a picture of a flag of my choosing, I also had to open both of them in Photoshop and move them to the same file to continue with the dimensions of 550 by 275 pixels with 72 resolution. I had to have the brick photo layer below the flag photo layer and set the blending mode to hard light and then I duplicated the brick photo layer and I pressed command, shift, and U keys to desaturate it and I moved it to the top layer then I saved it as "flag distort". Then I went to Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur and then I saved it as displacement, then I went to Filter-Distort-Displace and set the horizontal and vertical scale to 6 and selected "flag distort" with an opacity of 80% with a blending mode of hard light. Finally I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

15B:

To complete this assignment I had to do the same thing with the brick wall photo but instead with the photo I used with for my business card and one extra step. All I had to do was to use the lasso tool and circled the area around my face and deleted the background. Finally I used the lasso tool to deleted the area around my eyes and lips and then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #16 - Understanding and Using smart filters in Photoshop for dynamic adjustments.

To complete this assignment I had to find a picture of a object and make it look like its moving. I've decided to find and use a picture of the 7 train in New York, then I opened the picture in Photoshop as a smart object. Once I did this I went to filter, blur, then motion blur and set the options to 25px. Then I pressed the mask thumbnail and used the brush tool, with a soft edge brush to fit my picture and set my foreground color to black. Then I painted over the train to release it from the filter. Then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #17- Using a quick mask to make a detailed section.

To complete this assignment I had to find a picture of a person and open it in Photoshop.
Once I did this I used the zoom tool to zoom in the section that I wanted to work on and O made sure the that the the foreground and background were on its default colors. Then I pressed the quick mask button and the brush tool, on the appropriate settings, to paint over the desired areas, which became red. If I made a mistake then I switched the foreground color with the background color and painted over the mistake. Once I was done with painting it I clicked inverse and changed the areas that I selected before, for the eyes I changed the color to red and made the teeth whiter. Then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #18- Add a soft focus effect to make a portrait glow.

To complete this assignment I had to use a photo of myself, so I used the photo I used for my business card and I opened it in Photoshop. Once I opened it in Photoshop I duplicated the background layer and then I  went to filters and converted it to Smart Filters. Then I went to filter, blur, then Gaussian blur. Then I adjusted the options to 5 pixels and then I put the blending option to screen and a layer mask. Then I used the brush tool, with 40% opacity and a soft brush, and painted over important features such as the eyes and mouth to set them free from the blur effect and to make them stand out. Finally I used the opacity slider to get the glow I wanted and then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.

Assignment #19- How to create a realistic USB drive.

To complete this assignment I had to use Adobe Illustrator. Once I opened it I created a document 550 * 550 px and a rectangle 175 * 300 px and I centered it. Then I centered the rectangle in the middle of the document and created an ellipse 175*50 px and enabled smart guides so I can align both shapes at the bottom of the rectangle. Then I pressed pathfinder to unite both shapes and used a gradient of 82% black and location 30%, 2% black, location 6%, 40% black, location 22%, 45% black, location 75%, 10% black, location 93%, and  100% black, location 100%. Then I created two rectangles, 158 * 12 px and 118 * 8 px, and distorted both with 10% arc and aligned them both to the top of the original rectangle with a gradient of 95% to 80% black with an 90 degree angle. Then I created three squares with a gradient, the fist rectangle, 100 *100 px, and the third rectangle, 94 * 94 px had a gradient of  22% to 34% black with location of 30%, and the second square, 97 * 97 px, had a gradient of 5% to 50% black location 20%. then I aligned the squares at the top of the rectangle and made two rectangles, 25 * 14 px with 50% to 100% black, 20% location, and 90 degree angle and placed them on top. Then using the pen tool I made a line in between the rectangles as in the picture to the left. then I made an ellipse 135 * 35 px with 70% black fill and I set it bed\hind the object body at the bottom. Then I made a rounded rectangle 80 * 165 px and corner radius of 20 px with a white fill and I offset the shape with -3 offset field. Then I used a gradient of 80% black, 45% black at location 40%, 45% black at location 66%, and 100% black at location of a 100%, also with the first diamond 30% location, second one 50% location and the last one at 80% location. Then I added the appropriate size text with the necessary information.
Then I saved it as a JPG and PSD and sent it to mcsmtd@gmail.com.
